RHODE ISLAND'S EVERYDAY HEROES ESSAY CONTEST

In celebration of RI's local police and fire heroes
(In memory of Sergeant Cornel Young Jr. and Michael J. Day)

Entry Deadline: March 12, 2007

First Prize: $300.
2 Second Prizes: $100

Essay Topic: Great experiences with RI police and fire departments.


Issues to consider for this essay are: how you were personally touched by police and fire departments; why you would be inspired to choose your profession in the field of police and fire; and how police and fire people have personally improved you and/or your community's quality of life. Also considered would be a story relating to someone you feel should be recognized as a local hero.

Winners for essay will be publicly recognized at The TSETSE Gallery at a special reception on Sunday, March 25th at 1PM. The winning essay will be read. Attendees will be local police, fire fighters, community leaders, supporters, and art appreciators.

Essays will be judged by local police and fire dept. representatives along with certified teachers and gallery directors. Winning essays must demonstrate good writing skills and inspirational content.

Entries must be postmarked no later than March 9th, 2007 and received by March 12, 2007. Winners will be notified via e-mail and/ or by mail by March 19, 2007.

PPAC ARTS Scholarships

Applications for the 2006 ARTS Scholarships program, at PPAC, are now being accepted through March 3, 2006. This program will provide 25 scholarships valued at up to $500.00 each to qualified, talented Rhode Island students (ages 11-14 by June 1, 2006) enabling them to attend local summer arts education programs.

ARTS Scholarships 2006 applications and guidelines are available online at www.ppacri.org or at PPAC's administrative offices at 220 Weybosset Street, 2nd floor.

Youth Art Programs

A wonderful Saturday art program for children ages 6 - 15. The cost is $15.00 for a 2-hour course of instruction. Fees include the cost of all paints and canvas, as well as an exciting art opening for the young artists. Classes run from 9:30AM - 11:30AM; Noon - 2:00PM; and 2:30PM - 4:30PM.
