A Message From the Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are delighted that you have taken the opportunity to enjoy the gallery and its exhibits of art and culture. Here at The TSETSE Gallery we believe that art can lift the voices of the unheard, provide a pathway to cultural understanding, promoting healing and peace of mind for those in need. Challenged children are at the heart of our programs. "Building Community Through Art" is at the pinnacle of our goals.

We trust that art as a tool can help us overcome obstacles to success and assist each of us in reaching our fullest potential. Art is both a lens for the examination of societal ills and the canvas on which the solutions can be worked out. These beliefs form the premise of our child, youth and community programs.

For the past 12 years, The TSETSE Gallery has used art and art exhibitions as a vehicle to shine the spotlight on various community groups that typically are unseen. In this way, the diversity within our community is more valued and many marginalized elements of the community are more integrated and appreciated.

One approach is to use monthly art exhibitions to highlight a group that is outside the mainstream of community attention. Each month, a single group has an art exhibition focused on them. Examples of groups highlighted have been: Diverse Cultures, Multiple Sclerosis individuals, Mental Health sufferers, Senior Citizens and the Blind and Visually Impaired Community.

Training in art and creative expression is another tool that has been very successful with children. By becoming young artists they have gained identity and self esteem. These are but two examples of how the TSETSE Gallery has impacted the community.

We hope you enjoy the exhibits and continue to support us in "Building Community Through Art."

Sincerely,

Therese Lavallee

Executive Director
